Abstract:
The compositions for double choir by the Silesian composer Matthäus Apelles von Löwenstern (1594 – 1648) were preserved in primary sources exclusively as manuscripts. Because they never appeared in print, there are differences between the various versions of his pieces. By comparing his selected compositions preserved in the “Sammlung Bohn” and in the “Levoča Music Collection”, this paper aims at evaluating the degree of these differences and at arriving closer to an answer to the question of whether the intabulations in the tablature books of the Levoča Music Collection, recorded with new German organ tablature, represent the complete versions of his works.
